Should We All Be Urban Farmers?

I've spent some time of late doing a series of interviews with NYC chefs, farmers and other local food activists about why they support local agriculture efforts, and specifically why they would like a vegetable garden planted in front of NYC's City Hall (just like the First Lady's White House veggie garden).
Here are a couple of my favorites - Annie Novak from Eagle Street Rooftop Farm and Chef Carmen Gonzalez, the Top Chef Master's Finalist. I'll be posting some more over the next week or so with more of a discussion about the current popular fascination with urban farming and localized food production. To start the conversation, I recommend reading a Grist post that was carried on Streetslbog today that starts to examine some of the complications around advocating for land in dense urban areas to be converted to agricultural use.
